The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CBMS™) is just a lot of words to say it brakes automatically when a potential accident is detected. First, you’ll hear an audible chime and a visual cue will pop up on the dash warning you that an accident is possible. This could be a pedestrian stepping off of a curb, a vehicle ahead of you suddenly stopping, or in some cases, even a large animal on the road ahead of you. If you fail to react and the threat is still imminent, the system will apply braking pressure to slow you down, reducing the effect of the impact.
Road Departure Mitigation System
We’ve all been there. You take a second too long trying to figure out what is happening in the back seat or trying to find the road sign you were looking for and suddently you’ve put two wheels on the shoulder. With the Road Departure Mitigation System in the 2021 Honda Pilot, you’ll be warned when you are nearing the edge of the road surface, and gentle steering assistance will pull you back toward the lane where you belong. In extreme cases, it can even apply the brakes if you are in danger of leaving the roadway altogether.
Adaptive Cruise Control
This feature is aimed at keep you out of harm’s way in the first place. With Adaptive Cruise Control, you’ll be allowed to set two parameters: Speed and following distance. From there your 2021 Honda Pilot will choose which one to prioritize depending on traffic ahead. In clear conditions it will maintain your chosen speed, and when you approach slower traffic it will defer to following distance to maintain a safe gap to the vehicles ahead. It can even stop for you in the event of a true traffic jam, but you’ll have to keep an eye on the road ahead to take over in case a sudden stop is necessary. Either way, once you stop, a simple tap on the accelerator will prompt the system to reengage.
